My last trip while in Biloxi, Mississippi was to Bellingrath Gardens near Mobile, Alabama. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas, as it is every year. The Bellingrath’s built the house in 1935 when they decided they wanted to open the gardens to the public. Prior to that it had been their country get-away, but Mrs. Bellingrath had worked on the gardens for years. He was the first Coca-Cola distributor in Alabama and became quite wealthy. They had no children, and so left the estate as a Trust to ensure that people could continue to enjoy the gardens and home. It is all beautifully maintained, and I spent a very happy day there.
