Shearwater Pottery was established in 1928 by the 3 Anderson brothers. Their mother had encouraged their artistic talents, and all 3 were potters, and Walter was a painter as well. In his early days he earned his living at the pottery with his brothers. Today the pottery still sits near the marina in Ocean Springs and is still run by later generations of the Anderson family.
