The Georgia Sea Turtle Center opened in 2007 in the historic district on Jekyll Island.  It is a rehabilitation, research, and educational facility.  It usually has 8 – 12 sea turtles in its tanks suffering from illness or injury.  Many are loggerheads, as they are the most common off the coast of Georgia.  They keep track of the nests, and monitor the trends of sea turtles nesting.  It is a wonderful place and my grandchildren love to visit.  They have a great gift shop, an interesting and interactive education center, and of course, the hospital for the sea turtles.
