Founders Memorial Garden is in the heart of the University of Georgia campus in Athens, Georgia.  It was created in 1936 to honor the 12 members of the very first garden club in the United States, which was called the Ladies Garden Club of Athens, founded 1891.

Garden Clubs exist across the United States these days, and I became involved in my local club when I first moved to Savannah in 2007.  It is a great social network, as well as a way of keeping local areas and neighborhoods beautiful.  Some of my closest friends are members of Windsor Forest Garden Club.

Founders Memorial Garden was a quiet, green oasis on a hot August afternoon.  It is beautifully landscaped and very well cared for.  I enjoyed my stroll around this small garden (only 2 1/2 acres) after a day of driving.
